Chatham, New Jersey
CHATHAM, NEW JERSEY: Incorporated on March 1, 1897, Chatham is named after William Pitt, the Earl of Chatham. About half of the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge with more than 7,000 acres of preserved natural woodland and migratory bird sanctuary is within Chatham Township making it an ideal community for nature lovers.
Commuters enjoy a convenient location near Routes I-78/24, I- 287, and Newark Liberty International Airport, only a twenty-minute car ride away. A large segment of its resident population takes advantage of the excellent train and bus service with easy access to New York City. You couldn’t ask for a better shopping location: not only does Chatham boast three lively shopping districts but it also borders Morristown, Summit, and Madison and is a short 5 minute drive to the Short Hills Mall.
Many regard Chatham as perfect suburbia with a highly-regarded public school system, municipal tax structure and town services. The Chatham Educational Foundation, a nonprofit group of town residents provides funding for special projects recommended by teachers to enhance an already superior school system.
